Shawn and his team were nearly invisible, yet he was able to capture such beautiful and intimate shots without us even noticing his presence.

ABOUT SHAWN

Christian Oth Studio photographer Shawn Connell

Australian-born Shawn Connell has been at the forefront of photojournalistic, portraiture, editorial and beauty photography from the first moment he picked up a camera.

Shawn has always had an eye for light and composition that brings out incredible beauty regardless of subject. His talent for visualizing the composition and framing of a shot before pressing the shutter button paved the way for him to work with the top creative and advertising agencies.

He has photographed weddings at every major New York location- from The Met to The Natural History Museum, the Library - this city is his backyard.

Shawn’s specialty is the impossible.

He captures the day with clean, documentary-style photojournalism but with an eye for beauty and flattering angles. He scouts beforehand and drops a couple into a location for (quick!) natural, relaxed portraits. For family and bridal party photos his mastery of lighting equipment has him ready to shoot New York’s difficult indoor sites, while his experience shooting 500+ weddings shows when he’s getting any any number of family groupings and any size bridal party photographed elegantly and efficiently. His all around prowess has made him a favorite and is why your planner has sent you here and begged you to go with Shawn.

In 2004, he began photographing events with Christian Oth Studio and since then, his wedding work can be found in all the prestigious publications- Vogue, Town & Country, Vanity Fair, Over the Moon, Grace Ormonde, and more.

Shawn draws unique inspiration from each wedding he is invited to document. He proves his fine art photography craftsmanship at every event in all situations.

For me, the best portraits are non-portraits: a moment of candid movement that tells a story. It is usually that instantaneous and often simple moment that makes the most iconic shot.”

In a non-pandemic year, his work often takes him abroad – from top historical sites and luxury hotels in Mexico, Greece, France, Italy, and more. He enjoys the challenges each location brings that push him to expand the versatility of his artistry, but always loves coming home to the energy and life of NYC.

He keeps a healthy life balance by pursuing his passions creating fine art collections for Art + Method, an art gallery in Brooklyn he founded and runs, spending time in the upstate cabin that he designed and built, overseeing every detail of his new wedding studio and raising his two sons.

I have actualized my dream to create a studio that genuinely cares for each client - with the experience and staff committed to making each wedding truly spectacular.
